CALL celebrates 25th Birthday
Tuesday, 16th December 2008
We were delighted to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the work of Communication, Access, Literacy and Learning (CALL) Scotland.
A celebration was held on the 9th December with Guest speakers, Professor Kathleen Marshall (Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People), Martin Littler (Chairman and CEO of Inclusive Technology), and Dr. Mike Gibson (Scottish Government).
It is difficult to believe that it is 25 years since we first opened our doors to people with disabilities and to children with special educational needs who might benefit from specialised technologies to help them to communicate. The years have gone past very quickly – life is certainly never boring in CALL!
A free 25th birthday commemorative booklet (.pdf, 1.73Mb) is available to download.
Scottish Voice now available for purchase
Thursday, 27th November 2008
The Scottish Voice can be used by any pupil, member of staff or support service in Scottish schools free of charge. We have received several requests for the voice from individual adults, adult-related support services, or students in further and higher education, and so we are pleased to announce that we can now sell the voice for use by people who are not in Scottish schools. A single user licence costs £30 (inc VAT) and you can buy it from the CALL online shop
'Practical Solutions to Support Communication' reviewed
Wednesday, 20th August 2008
Reviewed in the April/May 2008 edition of Special Children.
Quote: "The papers are, naturally, of particular interest to those working in the field of AAC, but taken from a wider inclusion perspective they would be useful to parents, staff planning for and supporting pupils placed in mainstream schools who require AAC, and to planning departments who have an influence in wider world situations."
