Dyscalculia and Assistive Technology

Posted by Shirley Lawson on the 16th May, 2018

On this day - National Numeracy Day - we are raising awareness of dyscalculia, a specific difficulty in processing number concepts and mastering basic numeracy skills. Our Assistive Technology to support Dyscalculia full day training course in March was fully subscribed very quickly and there was a waiting list too.

This year, we are planning to run two separate courses so we can tailor the training for teachers supporting dyscalculic students in different age groups. Although a student with dyscalculia in high school may struggle with early level mathematical concepts and some technology to support this will be the same, there will be more of a focus on technology to support an older learner undertaking assessments, examinations, moving on into further education or entering the workplace.

Our two half day courses will be held here at the University of Edinburgh on the following dates and will cost £50:

Our full Professional Learning calendar will be available by the end of May and the booking system will become live.

Alternatively we can come out to your school and provide a bespoke training course on this subject (or a range of others on Assistive Technology) as part of an In-Service Day or a twilight session. Check out our In-School Training web page for more details and costs.
