New to using an iPad? Free training

Posted by Shirley Lawson on the 13th September, 2017

New iPad courses on offer  - FREE Professional Learning!

An Apple Regional Training Centre (RTC) delivers courses to build the skills and confidence of educators to use Apple technology inside and outside the classroom. CALL Scotland is a designated Apple RTC and our special interest lies in providing support to students with Additional Support Needs.

The first course we are running here at the University of Edinburgh is on 11th October and it is ideally suited to someone who has no (or very little) experience of using an iPad. Maybe you have them in your school but you are not sure how to use them and certainly unsure about using them to enhance teaching and learning? We can help you!

Sign up now to this 90 minute session which will get you started with the basics and give you confidence to explore further. Our experienced and Apple Teacher certified trainers, Craig and Shirley will be on hand to help you support you. No need to be nervous - it will all be relaxed, friendly and non-pressured.

Sign up now to 'Introduction to Using an iPad'.

You can sign up for more than one course at a time and they will all be free. Have a look at our complete schedule of CALL Scotland Apple RTC courses as well as our calendar of Career Long Professional Learning opportunities, many of which will be using iPads to support communication, literacy, numeracy, sensory and physical issues.

Why is the iPad a good choice of device for a student with Additional Support Needs?

Glenda Anderson from Butte County, California has written an excellent blog post  on the use of iPads in the Special Education classroom.

She emphasises that:

‘It is the teacher that needs to teach, the iPad is only a vessel’ and that the use of an iPad must be done with a ‘true purpose’.

We will be emphasising this in all our courses; the iPad is only one tool in the toolkit of educational support of a young person with Additional Support Needs.
