The Scottish Book Trust Awards 2017

Posted by Joanna Courtney on the 21st September, 2016

CALL Scotland has once again produced accessible digital copies of the short-listed books in the Scottish Book Trust Awards 2017 for pupils with a Print Disability.

The Awards this year consist of two competitions;

The 3 Bookbug books make up the P1 Family Pack which will be gifted to every P1 child in Scotland by the Scottish Book Trust during Book Week Scotland (21st November to 27th November 2016).

The 3 Bookbug books are available in:

The 3 Scottish Teenage Book Prize books are available as reader-enabled PDFs.

Symbolised Resources

For the third year now, CALL has also produced symbolised resources to accompany the Bookbug Picture Book Prize books.

These consist of

all in PDF format for easy printing. There are also vocabulary sheets to accompany each symbol board. These resources will help children with communication difficulties, children with Additional Support Needs (ASN) and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL) to talk about each book, to participate fully in Shared Reading and to discuss which book they think should be the winner and why!

Download the fantastic FREE iPad communication app SoundingBoard and start using the symbol app board versions too, which can be downloaded, pre-recorded and ready to use, straight onto your iPad.

In addition there are adapted Teaching Activities with accompanying symbol boards and vocabulary sheets to go with the Scottish Book Trust’s Teacher Pack of learning resources Additional Support Needs section.

We hope that CALL Scotland’s resources will enable all children in Scotland to take part fully in this fantastic initiative from the Scottish Book Trust. Happy Reading!
