Survey - Are you using AAC iPad Apps for Communication?

Posted by Gillian McNeill on the 22nd June, 2021

AAC* iPad apps come in many varieties, enabling simple to full support for communication and there are many to choose from. It can be tricky however, to know what to use and so CALL Scotland have been helping with this, by providing a reference of recommended Apps through our Wheel of Apps. This was created in 2014 and has been updated regularly to reflect new apps being developed and others no longer available. As an update is due, we've provided an opportunity through a short survey, to input into the next version.

* Augmentative and Alternative Communication

What format is the survey?

The survey has a short format with 10 questions, so should only take a couple of minutes to complete and is anonymous.

Why are we conducting it?

We want to help you when you are tasked with selecting an AAC app for an individual, by using the information collected to provide an up-to-date recommended selection in our popular Wheel of Apps format.

Which types of AAC Apps does the survey cover?

The focus of this survey is on fully-featured communication Apps, which are symbol and/or text-based, however it's easy to skip questions if you are only using one of these varieties. There is also the opportunity to add suggestions of an App not listed.

Where can I open it?

The survey can be accessed by clicking below, please also share the link, if you have the opportunity within your networks:

Open survey.

Once updated the Wheel of Apps will be available to download from our website.

What’s the timeline for the survey and Wheel?

The survey will close on Friday 30th July, so that the Wheel can be made available for download by the end of August. The results of the survey will be shared by the us through our website and social media channels.

If you have any additional feedback or app suggestions for including in the Wheel, please let me know via email: info@callscotland.org.uk or Twitter: @gxmcneill.
