Predictable 6 speaks Scottish!

Posted by Paul Nisbet on the 7th August, 2020

The latest version of Predictable 6, the text-based communication app from TherapyBox, can speak with the Scottish adult and child voices Heather, Stuart, Andrew and Mairi. Let's find out how they sound and work.

Predictable 6 is a text-based communication aid app for iPad, Android and Windows. You can access the iPad version via touch, switch and head tracking, and from iOS 13 onwards, mouse or external pointing device. Predictable is aimed at people who are literate but don't have or have lost the ability to speak possibly due to cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, laryngectomy, stroke, apraxia or brain injury. The app offers a choice of keyboards, designs, and colours and has word prediction and phrase selection to speed up communication. There is an Android version available. Predictable comes with Acapela voices as well as four Scottish voices from CereProc.

Let's hear how the Scottish voices sound….

Find out more about Predictable at the TherapyBox web site. Preductable is available for iDevices on the iOS App Store and for Android devices on the Google Play Store. (The Android version should be able to speak with the full range of CereProc voices for Android although I've not tested any of them as yet. Glaswegians might consider Dodo; Scottish Gaelic speakers could use Ceitidh; Goblins can trying speaking with Goblin.)

There are several text-based communication apps available for iPads and iPhones such as:

Grid for iPad

Proloquo4Text

ClaroCom

SpeakUnique.

Our iPad Wheel of Apps for Communication and the equivalent wheel for Android Communication apps has more about these and other apps. Grid and Predictable are the only iOS apps to provide Scottish child voices.
