You are in:

Clicker 6, Clicker 7 and Clicker Apps

These courses will introduce Clicker 6/7 and / or the Clicker apps to both experienced and new users of Clicker.

Clicker is used to help pupils of all abilities develop their literacy skills. It is suitable for early years and pupils with additional support needs of any age at the very early ‘emergent literacy’ stage, as well as for reluctant writers, and older, more able pupils whose main difficulty is with spelling or handwriting. Clicker Grids provide point-and-click access to words, phrases and pictures, all supported with speech (recorded, or synthesized, eg the Scottish Voice). Additionally, it offers accessibility support to meet individual needs including single and two switch support. Pupils can express themselves in writing even if they have difficulties with physically handwriting and / or with sentence building or spelling.

Clicker 6/7 has been designed to be a more supportive and easier/ quicker to use than previous versions – but you do still need to learn how to work it. ‘Wizards’ help you to create Clicker Sets for worksheets and/or personalized writing support on any curriculum topic, creating talking books, and other interesting and motivating activities, such as matching games, or story telling activities with recorded speech.

Clicker 6/7 may help pupils with English as an additional language and can also be used in modern language teaching and learning, either using recorded speech or, with the addition of a language pack, text to speech and spellchecking in various different languages.

Clicker 6/7 consists of a talking word processor, an integrated word predictor, built-in drawing / painting tools, and example Clicker grid sets. It is easier than ever to download free pre-made resources from the Internet.

There are online resources online to help staff get to grips with this new version of Clicker, but there’s nothing quite like a face-to-face day with plenty time for hands-on exploration and practice. This CALL Scotland course offers hands-on from the beginning, either on school computers or on training laptops provided by CALL.

The Clicker  apps each replicate part of the full Clicker 6/7 program and which ones you may choose will depend on the levels and abilities of the pupils you are working with. The use of Clicker  apps for the iPad can be integrated into the Clicker 6/7 course or a separate course on the apps can be customized for your school / authority.
