Chromebooks in Examinations Seminar

Wednesday, 7th March 2018, 10:00am - 1:00pm [postponed until later in the year]

In 2015, Chromebooks accounted for more than half of all the mobile devices sold for use in US classrooms, overtaking the sales of iPads. Chromebooks are now being bought by schools and local authorities in Scotland in significant numbers. It is likely that they will become a common technology in use in Scottish schools.

CALL Scotland are working with the SQA to research the use of Chromebooks for digital exam papers. This seminar will showcase our research and provide practical guidance and advice for schools.

Cost: Free - registration required (below).

Live webinar available: Yes.

What will be covered?

  • Can SQA digital exam papers be accessed via Chromebooks?
  • What are the set up requirements and security issues?
  • What accessibility functionality is available for learners with additional support needs?
  • What additional apps and extensions could be used to support literacy difficulties?

There will be the opportunity to learn from authorities that have purchased Chromebooks and find out how successful they are as an alternative to Windows or tablet devices and to hear from a representative from Google who will provide an overview of the wider use of the range of built-in accessibility tools within G Suite and on the Chromebooks, as well as excellent web-based learning resources that can further meet students' individual learning needs.
