Symbols for All - New Inclusive Learning Symbol Resources

Posted by Claire Harrison on the 2nd November, 2017

CALL Scotland have created a set of symbolised print and interactive resources for learning accross the curriculum. The resources are all made using Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) and are freely accessible to any schools using Boardmaker Software.

Using picture symbols as visual supports can benefit learners of all abilities, for developing language and learning, and for organising the environment. Their use can improve outcomes for and raise the attainment of many learners, beyond those with identified additional support needs. The purpose in creating this pack is to provide a core resource for schools, which can be added to and which supports the introduction symbols and their use in everyday school activities.

The resources have been  created and organised around Curriculum for Excellence and have been organised into the  8 curricular areas:

Each of the symbol resources has been categorised and labelled into curricular areas, through there are some resources which may fall into multiple categories. The curricular resources are in a variety of easily adaptable formats such as bingo games, domino games, matching tasks, core vocabulary boards, sequencing supports, plus many more.

Who would use these resources?

The resources can be used by Class teachers, Support for Learning teachers,
