Supporting People with Dyslexia using a Windows PC (Dyslexia Scotland)

Dyslexia Scotland and CALL Scotland are working together to provide two free webinars on the use of technology to support children and adults with dyslexia. They are aimed at people with dyslexia, parents and teachers based in Scotland. The first will focus on the use of software for Windows computers, while the second will feature iPads, Android tablets and other devices.

You can view the webinar on a computer or tablet at home, or at work. You will be able to ask the presenters questions during the live broadcast. If you are unable to watch it at the scheduled time, you will be able to view an archived version at a time to suit after the original broadcast. 

This webinar will focus on the use of a Windows PC to support someone with dyslexia. Reading tools will include:

  • Using the accessibility features built into everyday programs, such as Microsoft Word and the Firefox web browser.
  • Why use specialist text-to-speech software, such as WordTalk, Ivona MiniReader?
  • Specialist tools to help with visual stress – ssOverlay, T-Bar and Vu-Bar.
  • Using the Books for All Database and other online resources to access and read books.

 

Writing tools will include:

  • Building a sentence with Clicker 7
  • Word prediction, using WordQ
  • Spellchecking with Ginger and Grammarly
  • Options for Speech Recognition
