Bookbug Story Resources for Parents

Posted by Joanna Courtney on the 25th May, 2020

Happy 10th Birthday Bookbug!

CALL Scotland have loved our Partnership working with Bookbug over the past 10 years, creating accessible versions of the books and symbolised resources. Now, more than ever, it is so important that all children can take part in shared reading and access stories with their parents and carers at home, to develop literacy and enhance health and wellbeing, while schools are closed.

As a birthday gift, we have put together a 'Bookbug Birthday Pack' of resources to enable children with communication difficulties to fully participate in Bookbug storytime at home with their parents and carers.

So, what’s in the pack?

  1. A ‘Bookbug Storytime Player PDF’ with links to 10 Author videos, produced by Scottish Book Trust, of some of our favourite Bookbug books. There are also links to digital symbolised resources, as well as video tutorials. The PDF can be downloaded and used on any Windows, Android or iOS device.
  2. A set of 10 SoundingBoard communication boards, one to accompany each book. The boards use symbolised vocabulary and recorded speech to enable children with communication difficulties to talk about the story and comment during shared reading. These can be used on an iPhone or iPad. Download the free app SoundingBoard for your iOS device
  3. Top 10 Tips for parents and carers on how to use the resources at home with your child.
  4. Video tutorials and examples of ways to use the resources at home.
