I-ASC Project Workshop, Manchester

Posted by Allan Wilson on the 20th September, 2019

Mark Jayes from Manchester Metropolitan University has asked us to make information available on a workshop being organised in Manchester by the I-ASC Project. I-ASC have been developing an evidence-based resource to support decision making for families and professionals involved in AAC assessment.

Public Involvement in research - the role of children, young people and adults with communication disabilities and their families/carers in a major research project

On: Thursday 24th October 2019, 10.00 – 16.00

At: Garratt Suite, Manchester Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), Liverpool Road, Manchester, M3 4FP.

The workshop will focus on the contributions that children, young people and adults with communication disabilities and their families/carers made to the I-ASC project. I-ASC (Identifying appropriate symbol communication aids for children who are non-speaking: enhancing clinical decision-making) was funded by an NIHR Health Services & Delivery Research award (14/70/153).

The workshop will share the experiences of those involved and the extent of their involvement.  This will include I-ASC project resources and tools which will be used to demonstrate how it is possible to hear the opinions and views of all research participants, irrespective of communication disability, and how service users worked as equal members of the research team from conception of the project brief through to evaluation of how the project was produced and disseminated.
