A really big thank you to everyone who signed up for our virtual ASN and Technology Conference this week.  Due to Covid-19, we were unable to host our scheduled conferences in Glasgow and Edinburgh so made the decision to move it online.

We had the amazing total of 570 people sign up at which point we closed off the list as we were unsure how the web conferencing platform would respond to such large numbers.   The morning consisted of parallel 15 minute workshops showcasing a range of inclusive digital technologies to support children and young people with additional support needs.  At one point in the morning we had a total of 300 logged in across the two sessions which was fantastic.

If something good can come out of this current situation then it’s the hope that due to the  number of people we have been able to reach in a virtual capacity, awareness has been raised of all that is possible with assistive technology and the knock on effect will be better support in schools – and at home - of young people with literacy, communication, sensory and physical challenges.

If you would like to see any of the workshops from the day, please go to our YouTube channel.  Anyone can watch them so whether you attended the conference or not.

I did my workshop on our most requested area of Professional Learning: Technology to support those with literacy difficulties. It was a short whirlwind session and covered some useful tools on a Windows laptop to support a pupil struggling at home with online learning.

Professional Learning

We are gearing up to deliver many more online learning workshops on the use of any / all inclusive digital technologies over the next six months.  This can be a very successful, cost effective way for schools to provide bespoke Professional Learning for staff in a collaborative, interactive way even when people are working from their own homes.

Please get in touch with Shirley.lawson@ed.ac.uk if you would be interested in finding out more and booking your school in for a workshop.
