Funding Opportunity for 3rd Sector in Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced a new Section 10 Grant Scheme providing funding for voluntary / third sector organisations supporting people with sensory impairments and / or people with communication difficulties.

Under the Section 10 Grant scheme, the Scottish Government's Assisted Communications Team have been allocated £115,000 of funding for the financial year 2018/19. This funding is available to voluntary / third sector organisations for the purpose of delivering:

the priorities and vision for the Scottish Government’s See Hear Strategy for people with sight loss, deafness and dual sensory loss; and/or
the implementation of the legislation and wider work programme that provides children and adults who have lost their voice, or have difficulty speaking, a right to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) equipment and support in using that equipment.

The Scottish Government would like to invite application proposals which can clearly demonstrate how they will contribute to the delivery of the outcomes related to these work programmes.

Applications

Please note –

the funding will be for one year (until 31 March 2019). Any funding for future years will be the subject of future Scottish Parliament budgetary arrangements and therefore cannot be guaranteed
we will be happy to consider collaborative /partnership bids.

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

Has the organisation’s financial position been established and is it financially stable?
Is the proposal suitable? i.e. does it fit with the Scottish Government's National Outcomes and its priorities for improving the quality of social care services?
Is the proposal feasible and sustainable? i.e. is it likely to succeed, particularly beyond the life of the 1 year grant?
Is it acceptable? i.e. which other stakeholders will be involved and/or affected, is their commitment required and has it been secured?

Successful applications must specify:

which of the recommendations in the See Hear Strategy their proposal relates to; and/or
how it contributes to the delivery of the implementation of the legislation on Communication Equipment and the wider programme of work on AAC.
what the project will achieve (measureable outcomes)
how these outcomes will be achieved (who and by when/ timescales).

Can CALL Scotland Help?

CALL Scotland has been using assistive technology to support learners with communication difficulties for 35 years. We can provide advice and training in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology. CALL has a Loan Bank of equipment that can be used to evaluate how well different devices can meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in Scotland

We are happy to work in collaboration with other organisations to help ensure that children and adults who have lost their voice, or have difficulty speaking are provided with the communication equipment and support that they need.
