Making the most of Microsoft Word to Support Learners with Literacy Difficulties

Often it can be the smallest of adjustments such as changing the font style, using the talking spell checker, setting up a customised Word template that can make a big difference. 

In this workshop I will explain how to make small and simple adjustments within Word and Word Online that are often overlooked and can support a range of literacy difficulties, for example:

• customising Word to meet a range of diverse learning needs,
• using the talking spell checker and Word's powerful Editor to help with spelling and grammar, 
• using Show Text Suggestions as I Type - a basic word prediction program to improve writing speed and accuracy,
• some helpful tips on using Read Aloud and the popular Immersive Reader,
• some helpful keyboard shortcuts to change font size, spacing and more,
• how Word compares on different devices such as an iPad and Word Online and the tools they offer. 

I will also demonstrate some hidden gems that you can use in Windows alongside Word and signpost you to some useful resources such as a series of short video guides, posters and guides.
