Microsoft Editor - now available for Edge and Chrome

Posted by Craig Mill on the 29th June, 2022

Microsoft Editor is a built-in spelling and grammar checker available in Word and Word Online. But you can now download it as an extension for the Edge and Chrome browsers.

What is Editor and how does it compare to other online spell checkers?

Microsoft Editor uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recognise and offer corrections for spelling and grammar mistakes in Office 365, e.g., Word, Outlook and Word Online (available via Glow).

The video below provides an overview of Editor.

Artificial Intelligence spelling and grammar checkers are not new, they have been around for many years in programs such as Ginger and Grammarly. Ginger and Grammarly also offer free 'add-ins' for Office applications.

While these 'add-ins' are free, they are limited and require a subscription to access the 'premium' features. The free Grammarly Add-in for Outlook and Word has been a favourite of mine for many years.

In March this year, I wrote an article which compared Ginger, Grammarly and Editor; Online Spelling Checkers - Which One is Best?

Download the free Editor extension for Edge and Chrome browsers

The Editor extension for Edge and Chrome extends the way it can be used rather than limiting it to Office applications, e.g., spell checking on a range of web applications such as Gmail and social media.
