We are delighted to announce that our popular professional learning course 'Technology to Support Dyslexia in Education', will start on Tuesday, September 10th, at 4 pm.
Technology to Support Dyslexia in Education
This 5-week, high-quality online course will focus on and explore a range of technologies, resources, and strategies to support learners with literacy difficulties arising from dyslexia.
Pitched at an introductory/beginners level, it is a technology-based course for educators and other professionals working within the Scottish Education sector who want to learn how technology can support learners with dyslexia to overcome barriers to learning.
As well as the self-study materials via our online modules, the course is supplemented with once-weekly online workshops on a Tuesday from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., delivered by members of the CALL Scotland team.
The workshops are recorded, so there is no need to worry if you miss any of the live workshops.
Technology to Support Dyslexia in Education is aimed at teachers, learning support teachers, classroom assistants, parents, and other professionals who are either working with learners with dyslexia and/or would like to learn about the potential that technology can offer.
Whether you are a beginner to technology or an experienced user of technology in the classroom, there is something for everyone!
The course covers a range of technologies, resources, checklists, and strategies, for a range of devices, such as Windows, iPads/iPhones and Chromebooks.
A key focus is to explore and highlight the excellent built-in tools and features that are found in modern-day devices and operating systems that offer support at a universal level.
You will also have an opportunity to explore specialist software/resources for learners who require more targeted support.
There is also additional reading on dyslexia assessment frameworks, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as well as journal articles for those who wish to delve deeper into the subject.
Excluding the once-weekly workshops, we estimate there is a minimum of 3-5 hours per week of self-study – but it’s up to you how much time you wish to study.
We use Microsoft Teams to host the weekly workshops but as part of the course you also get free access to our popular and brilliant 'Technology to Support Dyslexia in Education Masterclass Online Course'.
In addition, you will also get free access to our professional learning modules 'Technology to Support Dyslexia' and 'Using the iPad to Support Literacy'. These are fantastic resources to help extend and enhance your knowledge and learning of making the most of technology to support learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
We have attempted to make the course as interesting, engaging and interactive as possible.
