Quha Zono Gyroscopic mouse

Posted by Robert Stewart on the 14th March, 2016

CALL recently received a Quha Zono Gyroscopic mouse to trial (from Smartbox). This Gyroscopic mouse is for those who cannot use an ordinary mouse and is worth consideration as an alternative to other accessible mouse options, such as headmouse or eye gaze. It is attached to user’s head (spectacles or a hat), hand or foot. As the head, hand or foot is moved, so the mouse is rotated and the mouse pointer moves around the screen.

The range of the wireless mouse is 10 metres and it is charged via a USB cable. The battery has a 30 hours of active use.

The installation is surprisingly quick and easy:

  1. Plug in the USB receiver into your computer or tablet (apparently it is supported on any operating system as long as your device has a USB slot).
  2. The software automatically installs from the USB receiver (although a CD is provided too).
  3. Attach the Quha Zono to your head (via a head mount kit) or to your hand or foot (with Velcro band).
  4. Then open the installation program and simply select where the mouse is to be attached.

The settings program will also allow you to set:

You can also connect a switch to the USB receiver if you so wish.

Above is a screen shot of the installation and settings interface but I've also created a short YouTube video showing the operation of the mouse (no sound).

There are plenty more user case studies on the manufacturers website and a good YouTube video showing a user of the Quha Zono mouse.

Cost

The basic package (head mouse, USB receiver, velcro wrist band) retails for about £550 + Vat.

You can also buy accessories such as the head mounting kit for £40 + Vat.
