Raising Attainment

Raising attainment in literacy is a key priority for the National Improvement Framework, the Scottish Attainment Challenge and Pupil Equity Funding and so speech recognition technology must be one of the tools we should be considering to support learners.

Schools will have a wide range of available technologies and all will have speech recognition functionality whether it’s in-built or using a particular piece of software or free web-based application such as Google Docs. Have a look at this Sway presentation from Malcolm Wilson gives an overview of how to access speech recognition on different devices.

This excellent blog post, Speech Recognition in the Classroom: What do teachers need to know? has some good links to research, videos of speech to text in action and information on the impact it can make for learners with additional support needs.
