60 minute Online Learning workshop.

In this 60 minute workshop Craig will explain the benefits of using word prediction with learners who experience difficulties with writing. Predictive text is now widely available on mobile phones, but word prediction as a learning support tool was around long before the emergence of predictive text.

Using a case study approach, Craig will give an overview of the features of word prediction, and explain how it can help to increase writing speed, improve accuracy and boost confidence and independence.

What you will learn

  • An overview of the process of choosing a dedicated word prediction app.
  • A comparison of different word prediction apps and their features/tools including:
    • Freely available tools such as Show Text Suggestions as I type/Text Predictions/Predictive for iPad/ClaroRead for Chrome.
    • Word prediction in Clicker 8 with speech and image support.
    • WordQ – a dedicated word prediction program which includes tools to create custom word banks for different curriculum subjects.
    • Penfriend XL – using word prediction with modern languages including Gaelic.
  • A summary of relevant research articles to support the use of word prediction as a learning support tool.
