Presenter(s): Ramsay Melhuish, Pickatale
Every child's relationship with reading is different, and that's especially true for children with additional support needs. This session looks at simple, practical ways families can support reading at home, whatever a child's starting point. That might mean a story written at an easier reading level but with content that still suits an older child's interests, or a favourite book made available in another language to support a child learning English as an additional language. It also means personalised books, created in the spirit of a book for every child, so that every young reader can see themselves in a story. Our Scottish narration audio has been developed and approved with input from CALL Scotland, and we're continuing to build this out. Ramsay will close by sharing Pickatale's library of 300+ books, free to explore as part of the UK's Year of Reading 2026, open to all schools across Scotland.
