Presenter(s): Kevin McPhee, City of Edinburgh Council
This webinar will explore how generative AI (GenAI)—tools that create text, images, audio, and other media—can be used as a creative partner to thoughtfully redesign existing learning materials so they better align with learners' interests, developmental stages, and age. This is particularly important for children and young people whose literacy or cognitive development doesn't align with their chronological age, and who often find existing materials inaccessible or unengaging.
Kevin will examine how to move beyond resources that feel overly simplistic or infantilising, focusing instead on creating content that is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and interest driven. Through practical examples, we'll demonstrate how GenAI can support the personalisation and customisation of learning materials, enable the integration of multimodal strategies, and help create inclusive resources for a wide range of learning profiles.
He will also explore how GenAI can act as a flexible tool for inclusive learning and teaching—enhancing sensory engagement (e.g. generating soundscapes from photos), supporting creative literacy (e.g. through ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ storytelling), and serving as a ‘thinking partner’ for learners who experience barriers to social interaction.
Once a month we'll send you an email with news, research and thoughts, as well as training courses and free webinars you may wish to attend.
