Beth has relied on using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in her daily life for nearly 3 decades. During this time, she has navigated mainstream and special schools, then university. As a dual career athlete, she represented Great Britain at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in boccia whilst completing her undergraduate degree. Beth began her public speaking career at the age of 12 and had delivered globally keynote speeches, workshops and training, she also mentors AAC users. She is the Patron of 1 Voice, a UK wide charity supporting young AAC users and their families, a Trustee of Communication Matters (ISAAC UK), and sits on the NHS England Specialised Services AAC advisory group. In 2023 she made the Disability Power 100 list as one of the most influential disabled people in the UK, and in 2024 she was voted the Disability Power 100 number 1 Community and Grassroots Advocate in the UK.
This session is full of practical tips, hints and guidance drawing on a lived experience viewpoint for anyone working with an AAC user.
