DyslexiFest, Stirling

DyslexiFest, organised by Dyslexia Scotland, was held in The Barracks, Stirling on Saturday March 7th 2020. It was described as a "one-stop-pop-up dyslexia" event and included something for everybody with a personal or professional interest in dyslexia.

In the morning session I gave a Masterclass on 'Assistive Technology - What should People with Dyslexia know about it?' to an audience of around  40 people. I started with a 2-slide Powerpoint presentation, followed by demonstrations of key apps, programs and built-in accessibility features of various devices that are useful for people with dyslexia. A handout provided basic information on what I demonstrated. As is often the case, I didn't manage to cover everything that I planned to talk about, but there were lots of good questions, showing that people were engaged with the subject and feedback from the session was very positive.

There were further two Masterclass sessions in the afternoon for Parents of Children with Dyslexia and for Adults with Dyslexia presented by experts from Dyslexia Scotland.

After my talk, I spent the rest of the day on the CALL stand in the exhibition space, talking with people about how technology could help them, or their children - I understand that around 180 people attended DyslexiFest. It was an enjoyable day and I am already looking forward to the next DyslexiFest event to be organised by Dyslexia Scotland at a venue and date to be confirmed.
