We now offer a free Family Play Consultation session with our Assistive Technology Expert, booking form below.
Play is vital for building social, problem solving, language and both fine and gross motor skills. It is how children learn to make sense of the world around them, experimenting with cause and effect, building their vocabulary and learning how to share, care and show empathy. But perhaps just as important as all of those essential life skills, playing is fun! Sharing that fun and joy with a child can be one of the most rewarding parts of being a parent or carer. Play is also very flexible as the rules can be adapted and changed to meet the needs of all involved.
There are however some barriers that children and young people can find difficult to break down. How does a non-speaking child for example join in fully with traditional games such as “What’s the Time Mr Wolf” or “Bear and the Honey pot”? How does a child with a physical disability access video games? How can a child who uses eye-tracking technology control a remote-control car? With enough imagination and some assistive tech, these barriers can be reduced and, in some cases, removed altogether.
This is the aim of our new free family play consultation service. If you are the parent, guardian, sibling, family member (or even the friend of a friend) of a child with a disability and you would like to learn more about how to make play accessible then this service is for you. Wheher you are completely new to world of Assistive Technology, or you have years of experience, we are confident there is something new and exciting we can share with you. We want to spark your imagination and leave you feeling confident and inspired to try out your own ideas and new ways of adapting play for your child.
