What are the needs of your learners?
We can design a bespoke 2 hour, half day or full day course for your staff on the use of technologies to support learners with autism. We can cover a wide variety of topics or spend time focussing on one particular area. Let's focus on the desired learning outcome and then think how technology could be implemented.
We have a bank of training iPads and Windows laptops but can also use your equipment if they have the necessary apps and software.
Communication Support Needs
Our specialist Speech and Language Therapists can create a training session which will look at Alternative Augmentative Communication technologies (and strategies) to support your learners in any of these areas:
- Understanding the written, verbal or non-verbal communication of others.
- Expressing themselves in writing, verbally or non-verbally to others.
- Increasing social communication.
- Accessing the school curriculum.
This could include hands on practice with symbol or text based communication iPad apps, literacy software and apps with voice output, single and multi-message devices or exploring Eye Gaze technology for learners with a physical and communication impairment.

Physical Support Needs
For some of us, technology makes life easier or more convenient, but for people with physical challenges, technology may offer the only way to independently access learning, information, employment, to communicate, to control the physical environment, and to be independently mobile.
We can provide a training course which will give you hands on practice on how technology can be implemented to support learners with physical support needs.
The following suggested areas can be explored:
- How is the learner interacting with the computer / iPad? Access methods: mouse, joystick, keyboards with keyguards, on screen keyboard, switch access, Eye gaze technology.
- Personalising settings on a computer to ensure correct mouse speed, keyboard repeat delay, dwell selection etc.
- Accessing digital learning resources and activities.
- Mounting of devices onto wheelchairs.
