A technology guide to creating a dyslexia-friendly classroom

If you haven’t seen the website ‘How to create a dyslexia-friendly classroom’ I highly recommend having a look. As well as a checklist and some examples of how to enhance inclusive learning for dyslexic pupils, the resource highlights the barriers that a child with dyslexia may face during their time at school. 

Inspired by the dyslexia friendly classroom approach, we thought a ‘technology guide to creating a dyslexia-friendly classroom’ poster would be a useful resource to share. 

The poster/guide/checklist recommends 8 technology tips you can easily and quickly implement, that are either built-in to the operating system or are free to download, for example;

• Using a text reader to support reading.
• Speech recognition – talk to your computer.
• Talking spell checker – great to help overcome difficulties with spelling.
• Font styles, colours and screen tints – to aid readability. 
• Word prediction – to increase writing speed and accuracy.
