Making the most of PDF's to support VI learners

The Portable Document Format (PDF) has been around for a long time. As well as being a free download, Adobe Acrobat Reader includes a range of tools to support learners with ASN, particularly learners with a visual impairment.

The video tutorial below explores and highlights different tools in Adobe Acrobat Reader to support accessibility as well as some ideas that can transform a PDF file into a range of formats such as Microsoft Word and ePub.

• How to use visual enhancements in Acrobat Reader such as magnification
• Making the most of keyboard shortcuts in Acrobat Reader
• Using the Edge browser to view PDFs
• Opening PDFs in Microsoft Word
• Using Glow to view PDFs in Word Online
• Converting PDF/Word documents to ePub format using the Daisy WordToEPUB add-in
• Viewing the converted ePub in an accessible reader, e.g. Dolphin’s Easy Reader for Windows
• Viewing the converted ePub on an iPad with the Dolphin Easy Reader app for iOS and Android
